Job Description
Our client is a global manufacturer of food packaging products and solutions. They are looking for a Safety Specialist for their Chicago facility.
This is a 3+ month contract position.
Hours are 8:30 am-5:00 pm but can be somewhat flexible with some overtime possible during evenings and weekends.
Pay will be based on experience and will range $24-$25/hour
The responsibilities of the Safety Specialist will include but are not limited to:
• Engage and work with employees, supervisors, and department managers, to maintain and continuously improve the company’s Environmental Health and Safety program.
• Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially at-risk conditions, processes, or materials.
• Participate in thorough investigations for all incidents and accidents on site and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
• Lead the team in developing effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Assist in the implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company policies as well as all local, state, and federal regulations and requirements.
• Partner with the EHS Manager to review, update, and develop written programs, policies, and procedures for safety adherence.
• Conduct weekly Safety Assessments.
• Enter safety work orders.
• Assist the EHS Manager with providing training and coaching.
• Support the EHS Manager with additional duties as required.

Job Requirements
Requirements:
• Two plus years of safety and health experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Preferred BS or BA degree in safety engineering, environmental or industrial hygiene, or a comparable field; or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and CDC.
• Ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, ownership, and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and an integrated team working style.
• Excellent written and formal presentation skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications.
